Our current project (March 2024 - February 2027)

Full Potential

CILL is a core collaborating partner in the GPE KIX-funded Full Potential initiative that is being led by Raise Your Voice Saint Lucia Inc. CILL supports the project implementation through innovation and leadership capacity building, and knowledge mobilization.

Inclusive educational practices that create safe and inclusive spaces for learning for both boys and girls is a priority for the Ministries of Education in the Caribbean region. The Organization for Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission’s Education Sector Strategy 2012-2026 names it as a cross-cutting theme, and identifies leadership, teacher professional development, teaching and learning, and curriculum and assessment as areas for development under this theme. This initiative is an opportunity for teachers, school leaders and ministry of education officials to explore and promote equitable gender attitudes, practices and resources and to create safe and inclusive spaces for learning for both boys and girls. With increased knowledge and understanding of gendered norms and inclusion, stakeholders across the education system can co-design policies and learning supports that engage boys and girls and improve their educational outcomes.

Over 30 months, starting in April 2024, educators from Dominica, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are being invited to join in the following activities:

Systems mapping to understand Factors influencing equity and inclusion Ministries of Education are exploring their country’s current collective understandings of the status of gender equity and inclusion in education and the factors related to those concepts with the goal of strengthening gender-responsive and inclusive education. This systems approach will help identify opportunities for more positive outcomes.

Communities of practice (CoP) Teachers and principals will engage in facilitated dialogues on transformational leadership, gender-sensitive pedagogies, inclusive education and innovation management to build shared professional capacity

Innovation for equity and inclusion Administrators are catalyzing innovation by identifying and communicating innovation priorities for equity and inclusion. Teachers at all levels then receive coaching and financial support to prototype (quickly test) new solutions in their classrooms. Principals act as important knowledge brokers in the system by sharing insights and findings from innovation projects with their colleagues and Ministry of Education supervisors.

Generating and using evidence on norms and inclusion Data collection activities are collecting information from students and teachers to better understand how identity factors (e.g., gender, age, poverty, race, religion, family structure, etc.) impact of experiences at schools. The information will help teacher innovators better understand the experiences of students so they can explore new practices to improve equity and inclusion.
